Ronja gård is situated in the southern part of Finnskogen, a large forest and lake district which stretches out along the Norwegian-Swedish border over a length of about 300km. The website of the Norwegian tourist organisation (DNT) offers lots of information about the various ways of experiencing nature in the largely unspoiled forests of Finnskogen.

Information about canoe hiking tours in the Finnskogen area can be obtained from the Arvika canoe-camp. The camp is situated no more than 60km east of Ronja gård in Sweden near the village Arvika. It also offers organized bicycle tours in Värmland, the south-western "borderland" of Sweden.

Kafé og Pensjonat Lunde in Engerdal, near national park Femundsmarka, offers comfortable lodging and an excellent starting point for hikes over the "fjell", canoeing on the lake and discovering delightful fishing spots.
Bustad Hyttetun, with its location at relatively high altitude in a side-valley of the Gudbrandsdal offers very good possibilities as a starting point for hiking tours in Rondane and Jotunheimen, both in summer and in wintertime.

Various small towns in the countryside of "borderland" Sweden-Norway offer ample opportunities for shopping and getting a little taste of the cultural and regional specialties of this part of Scandinavia. For example, a small town like Arvika deserves a visit. On the border of the lake with small exhibitions of art and the work of local artisans in some of the old wooden warehouses at the little harbour.

On the Norwegian side of the border the old small town Kongsvinger with its well-known and impressive fortress from the middle of the 17th century on the high hills bordering the river Glomma is definitely worth a visit.
