Camping and Lodging
at Ronja Gård in Finnskogen
Ronja Gård is situated
in the southern part of Finnskogen. This is a large and relatively
undisturbed area of southeastern Norway covered with woods, hills
and lakes.
The name of Finnskogen goes back to the Finnish immigrants who came to live
in this area in the 17th century. Many old dwellings, names
and customs still remind us of this immigration period.
The Jösseälv canoe route passes close by Ronja Gård.
The long distance path, Finnskogleden, that follows the Norwegian - Swedish
border has its starting point near Ronja Gård.
From Ronja Gård it is a 30 km drive to Kongsvinger,
an old Norwegian fortress town, strategically positioned in a bend
of the river Glomma. Kongsvinger offers museums (i.e. the national
Norwegian women museum) as well as an old town quarter near the
fortress with original wooden houses and art and crafts shops.
It is a 60 km drive to the Swedish town of Arvika, beautifully situated on
the shore of a lake with old warehouses that nowadays are used as
restaurants, art-galleries, small shops etc.
